Decor doesn't matter!

I am always struck when a prospective client says that the flowers don't matter or that no one remembers the linens.  First, because I make it clear in my website bio, everything I say, and hopefully in my work - that flowers matter to me!  And second,  context matters.

Context helps us to understand how to feel and what to do.  For example, when an invitation is engraved you know that the event is somewhat formal and traditional.  When an event is being held outside in a garden you know to wear the appropriate heel.  And so on.

Also, think about taking a walk or having a picnic.  These lovely activities feel so much more amazing when the sun is shining.  And I know I feel more invigorated if the air is crisp, or more  cozy in a lamp-lit room.  Some restaurants feel family-friendly, and others romantic, and you can tell instantly when you are in an upscale establishment.  The environment sets the tone.

All the elements - flowers, decor, and lighting contribute to the mood and clarify the feeling.

At Isha Foss Events, we love creating an environment that frames and enhances your celebration.  Because people remember the way we make them feel~!

Steampunk Wedding Inspiration

Steampunk is sexy - there, I said it!  I love the juxtaposition of Victorian and industrial design, the melding of the past and the future!  It combines the masculine and feminine perfectly and for that reason, is perfect for a wedding style.

Here is what I came up with for a recent event for the Uniquely Yours Bridal Showcase!

The wood table, cherry dance floor, and zinc chairs are available from Distinctive Event Rentals.  The cake is from Patti Cakes.  Vintage china courtesy of  Sweetwater Cuisine.  The gold Victorian chair belongs to Dave Bell of Stage Right Lighting Weddings.  Dave and SRL also provided the truss and made the custom copper chandelier!  Gear place cards from RSVP Stationery.  The design, floral, vintage desk, and all other prop items were provided by Isha Foss Events!

Here are some of the details up close.

Holiday Gala | Glitz & Glam!

I love mixed metallics!  For our corporate client party at Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art we created a design of silver and gold sequins with acrylic - and feathers!

It all came together.

The caterer, Sweetwater Cuisine,  brought the heat with a portable wood-fired pizza oven.  And also brought the ice (created by Ice Art VA) in the form of an ice bar with vodka bar back - outstanding!

Thanksgiving: Fall Florals

For me Thanksgiving is about abundance.  An abundance of joy, gratitude, and of food!  And fall with its warm hues, is more about the abundance of the land and finding (foraging) what is available.

I accept the less showy blooms, and welcome them for their texture and interest.

Myself, and my fellow Chapel Designers present our interpretation of fall floral design.  I am true to my love of cool colors.
